There are a lot of different options out there for couples who have fertility issues. One of them is IUI, or intrauterine insemination.

What is IVF?

IVF stands for In Vitro Fertilization. It is one of the more widely known types of assisted reproductive technology (ART). IVF works by using a combination of medicines and surgical procedures to help sperm fertilize an egg, and help the fertilized egg implant in uterus.

 What is IUI?

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) a type of artificial insemination is a procedure for treating infertility. Sperm that have been washed and concentrated are placed directly in uterus around the time ovaries release eggs to be fertilized.

IUI is the first line of treatment which is suggested to infertile couples in following cases:

-Low quantity and motility of sperms

– High quantity abnormal sperms

-Low volume of semen

-Presence of killer sperm secretions in cervical area

-Mild or moderate endometriosis

– Absence of ejaculation in the vagina due to impotence) Inability to maintain an erection) or structural disorders of the penis, the lower limbs paralysis of male or retrograde ejaculation.

 What is ICSI?

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is performed as an additional part of an IVF treatment cycle where a single sperm is injected into each egg to assist fertilization using very fine micro-manipulation equipment. In most cases, ICSI can be used to overcome severe male infertility. At Virtus Health, it is our policy to encourage the use of standard IVF rather than ICSI unless there is a specific indication for ICSI.

ICSI Process Stages:

  1. Ovarian stimulation
  2. The egg retrieval and egg collection
  3. Preparation of sperm(The most motile sperm with the most normal morphology are chosen)
  4. ICSI is where a single mature egg is confirmed and injected with a single sperm.

5.Embryo transfer to uterus
